Smash Labs, Why is this show on the air?
I will have to say I was hoping the Smash Labs, the "new" show on the Discovery Channel would be a good show along the lines of Myth Busters. Sadly, my hopes were dashed with their first demonstration and were pummeled to dust by the time the show was over.
First, their demonstration of a car running into other cars at an angle was flawed, in that the other cars weren't moving, which means their data was flawed and not accurate of an actual collision between moving cars.
Second, common sense would tell you that softer cement will mean lower g-forces, but it will take more of it to stop something. One of the factors in the high g-force in a crash is how quick you stop.
Third, why did they build a ramp into their field of concrete? That just launched the vehicles, by-passing valuable feet of concrete. And why test this? Very few places would have the space required to make this even close to viable.
Fourth, stop it will all the slow motion. Two or three times from different angles is more the enough. The crashes just weren't that spectacular.
And last, why couldn't they come up with something that actually worked? Maybe not economically feasible, but at least show you can solve to the problem of how to safely stop a car with cement.
I don't really have any comment about the people, other then they didn't leave any lasting impression one way or the other. I was too busy being flabbergasted by the poor quality of the scientific content of the show.
If Discovery Channel just wants to crash things and blow things up, they should market the show that way and they'll get plenty of people to watch it. But I think they are insulting their viewers by pretending there is valid scientific methods and thoughts involved in the show.

A good soup for a cold day. Not hard, but it does takes 7 hours to cook. It was below zero outside as I was making this, so it was a good day for it. Click on the picture for the recipe.
